Dear friends,

On behalf of FAME Canada, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for your interest in the ministry of Brook Hills Development Organization. We are thankful to our Lord that FAMECanada has finalized a partnership with B.H.D.O in Korah, Addis Ababa Ethiopia and now has a Canadian Revenue agency approved articulation with this organization.

In May 2019, we accompanied Marion and Jim Harris and four nursing students to visit the Korah region and experience the need and ministry there.

The ministry of BHDO is to the people who live in the Koshe dump in the Korah region of Addis Ababa. Yemamu Ahmed is the leader of the Brook Hills Development Organization. He lived in the Koshe dump as a child and now humbly serves the needs of the people who live in the plastic homes on the landfill site. As well, there are three Ethiopian dulas and an Ethiopian nurse on the BHDO staff. Together, this team are the “hands and feet of Jesus“ to the people who live in the Koshe dump. We were deeply inspired by the selfless love and kindness, that this staff demonstrated as they encountered the overwhelming needs of the people. 130,000 people, including 3000-5000 babies, survive in this dump by making shelters out of garbage and finding food that is disposed of as waste. Although a seemingly overwhelming task, the Staff of BHDO approach each day with genuine joy and are steadfast in their devotion to rescue one person at a time out of the dump.

Currently these are the pressing needs for this ministry:

1. Contributions towards a reliable vehicle that help transport people to hospital if necessary.

2. Contributions towards medication that can be distributed by the nurse who encounters people in the dump with infections.

3. Contributions towards a program that Yemamu is implementing for women that are rescued out of the dump. These women are taught skills that create financial autonomy.

4. Contributions toward grain and oil for families that are malnourished.

5. Sponsorship of mothers and babies that would provide better housing outside of the dump and adequate food for them.

6. Financial contributions towards a coffee roaster that will enable BHDO to raise funds for their ministry locally.

If you would like to contribute to any of the above needs, please specify. All donations can be made payable to FAMECanada and comment that the donation is for the BHDO ministry. You will receive a tax deductible receipt.
